IMPACT OF NIKOLA TESLA’S INVENTIONS ON EDMONTON – Celebrating Nikola Tesla Day, July 7 at the TELUS World of Science - Edmonton
The Nikola Tesla Historical Society of Alberta and the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton are staging an event to celebrate Nikola Tesla Day on Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 12:00 to 17:00 at the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton.
In 2019, Don Iveson, Mayor of Edmonton, proclaimed July 10 to be Nikola Tesla Day in recognition of his immense contribution to humanity. We’ve been celebrating this day ever since. Our focus this year is on the impact of Nikola Tesla’s work on Edmonton: from alternating current transmission, to radio, wireless technology, air conditioning, neon lights, and many more. Common understanding on Nikola Tesla’s contribution to modern technology is that 80% of today’s technology is based on his work.
We’ll start with a car parade of antique and electric cars to be followed by an engaging outdoor and indoor program at Telus World of Science – Edmonton. Participants and visitors will enjoy a spectacle of visual and audio performances, featuring a seven-foot Tesla coil, “dance” performance by a Tesla car, scavenger hunt, a movie about Nikola Tesla and a lot more. It will be an educational and fun community program for the entire family.
Finally, in a becoming gesture for ‘the man who lit up the world’, the High Level Bridge will be lit up at night in blue in recognition of Nikola Tesla (1856 -1943) and the electrification of Edmonton.
